You have the legal right to make your own decisions about the type of healthcare you want. An Advance Health-Care Directive (hereinafter “AHCD”) is a written set of instructions expressing your wishes for medical treatment. You have probably heard of an AHCD referred to as a “Living Will.”
As long as you are well enough, your physicians will involve you directly in making decisions about your medical treatment; however, if you are unable to make decisions about your care, others will have to make these decisions for you. An AHCD allows you to leave clear instructions for those who will make the decisions for you.
